Exploring Highgate and Camden Town

Today, we decided to take our explorations local within Muswell Hill, where we are staying. Our epic stroll started in Highgate Wood which eventually led into a very posh Highgate neighborhood, where all the houses lining the street looked identical. It was eerily quiet. Never mind that at some point, we made it to an incredibly large memorial right in front of George Michael’s house. How devastating that he just died on Christmas morning barely a week ago and at the age of 53. The entire front of his house and even his Range Rover were just littered with fan letters and photos from fans from across the world.

We continued further until we reached Highgate Cemetery. We took a stroll through the eastern part where Karl Marx is buried and continued onward, admiring the serene beauty of the grave stones that lay about.

Afterward, hopped the tube over to Camden Town. After experiencing the silent streets of Highgate, I finally saw something I was more familiar with in Camden. With the noise of the chaotic streets, it was like crossing into a different dimension. I could feel the essence of its punk rock history, and I’m all about it. Stopped in Camden Market and ended up buying a sweet vintage Super 8 video camera from a lady I haggled from £65 to £45.

It started to drizzle a bit as we found our way into this cute little comic book and video game boutique. We made a quick walk through of this enormous multi-level bar called The World’s End and made a final stop in another called the The Good Mixer, where tales of Amy Winehouse, who frequented the bar, trashed the place with her mates and got kicked out of it for being wasted. We sat on the very stool of which this debauchery took place and took a shot of whisky in her honor.
